    Concrete Testing of Bridge Deck

In 2008, the City of Sioux Falls authorized reconstruction of 69th Street between Charger Avenue and Tanner Avenue.  The Burlington Northern Sante Fe (BNSF) Railroad intersects 69th Street at the approximate midway point of the project.  A wetlands area is located north of the site for the west portion of the project.  The project includes the reconstruction of the current gravel-surfaced rural section line road to a new urban four-lane divided section or 5-lane arterial street.  A simple span bridge will be constructed over the BNSF Railroad. Earthen embankments will be constructed with a maximum height on the order of 35 to 40 feet. MSE retaining walls will be constructed for the bridge abutments and are parallel to 69th Street.

In early 2009, GeoTek completed a geotechnical exploration program for the project that included recommendations for support of the bridge, embankments, MSE walls and pavement recommendations.  The initial phase of construction was completed during the 2010 construction season.  GeoTek provided excavation observations, Geopier installation QA/QC oversight, bridge pile testing and installation observation, compaction testing of the earthen embankments and concrete testing during placement of the bridge deck.

The project will be completed during the 2011 construction season with the placement of the roadway pavement section.
